What's Happening in Muskoka in May 2026.  Events, Activities & Community Updates

What’s Happening in Muskoka This May 🌿

This spring in Muskoka hasn't started the way we had hoped!  With the recent flooding across the region, many homeowners and cottage owners are dealing with unexpected challenges, clean-up, and repairs. My thoughts are very much with everyone affected. If you’re navigating water damage, access issues, or simply the stress that comes with it, you’re not alone, this past week has been incredibly difficult for many in our community. If you do find yourself needing support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I have a strong network of trusted local contacts, both contractors and trades, who may be able to help as you work through repairs and next steps. At the same time, May is still a meaningful time in Muskoka. As water levels begin to stabilize and the region starts to recover, there are still opportunities to get outside, support local businesses, and reconnect with everything we love about being here. Before heading out, it’s always a good idea to check ahead as some areas and events may be impacted. Supporting local businesses can make a real difference. Here are a few things happening in Muskoka this May.

Running throughout May, the Hike the Lakes Scavenger Hunt is a fun way to explore Muskoka’s trails while adding a little adventure to your walk.
You’ll visit different trails across Muskoka Lakes, scan QR codes, and enter to win local gift cards, all while enjoying the fresh spring air. It’s also a great excuse to revisit favourite spots like Huckleberry Rock, my personal favourite.

🍺 2. Muskoka 2/4 Craft Beer Festival (May Long Weekend)

Taking place over the May long weekend in Huntsville, the Muskoka 2/4 Craft Beer Festival is a great way to kick off the season.
With local breweries, food vendors, and live music, it brings a lively energy to the area and marks the unofficial start of summer in Muskoka.

Spring migration season makes May one of the best times to experience Muskoka’s wildlife.
Guided birding experiences and nature walks run across the region, offering a chance to spot loons, warblers, and other returning species. It’s a peaceful way to experience Muskoka before the busy season begins.

May is when cottages start coming back to life. Docks get repaired (at least this year...), boats return to the water, and hopefully weekends begin to feel like summer again. This year, for many, that process may look a little different as clean-up and repairs take priority, but it’s still a time when Muskoka begins to reawaken.

🚶‍♀️ 5. Explore Muskoka’s Towns Before Summer Crowds

Take advantage of the quieter pace and spend a day exploring the towns:
  • Bracebridge
  • Port Carling
  • Gravenhurst
  • Huntsville
You’ll find local shops reopening, early patio season starting, and a more relaxed atmosphere than peak summer months.

🧘‍♀️ 6. Wellness & Community Events

Many studios and community groups begin offering spring programming in May, from yoga sessions to smaller local events.
These gatherings are often low-key but are a great way to reconnect with the community and support local businesses.

🌷 7. Simply Enjoy Muskoka in Spring

Sometimes the best “event” in Muskoka is no event at all.
May is about:
  • Quiet lakes
  • Crisp morning walks
  • Coffee on the dock
  • Watching the season slowly unfold
Even in a year like this, those moments still matter.
